Build a solar still for clean water
When the tap runs dry, the ground still holds water. Dig a shallow pit, set a clean container in the center, stretch a plastic sheet over the top and weight it down at the middle. As the sun heats the soil, moisture rises, condenses on the sheet, and drips down into the container — clean, drinkable water, with no power, filter, or chemicals.

Four ways to store the harvest
- Water-bath canning for tomatoes, jams, and pickles.
- Root-cellar staples that keep for months without power.
- Salt-cure and cold-smoke meat the way it was done for centuries.
- Dehydrate fruit and herbs for lightweight, lasting stores.
